CLP Regulation

Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures was ratified in the EU in December 2008. The CLP Regulation entered into force on 20 January 2009, and it will replace the EU’s current CLP legislation after the transitional period. The Regulation was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 31 December 2008.

The Regulation has been subsequently amended by Commission Regulations (EC) No 790/2009 (first adaptation to technical and scientific progress), (EU) No 286/2011 (second adaptation to technical and scientific progress), (EU) No 618/2012 (third adaptation to technical and scientific progress), (EU) No 487/2013 (fourth adaptation to technical and scientific progress) and (EU) No 944/2013 (fifth adaptation to technical and scientific progress). A correction was made to Annex VI of the CLP Regulation’s first adaptation to technical and scientific progress by Regulation (EU) No 758/2013. Regulation (EU) No 440/2010 lays down the fees payable to the European Chemicals Agency pursuant to the CLP Regulation.
